Sheds and Materials We Assess

Wood, metal, plastic, vinyl, and prefabricated garden or storage sheds may be assessed for dismantling and hauling. Size, construction, condition, surrounding structures, and the route to the loading area determine whether the work is suitable.

Wood and Metal Sheds

Panels, framing, roofing, and fixings are reviewed for an appropriate dismantling plan. Attached structures or sheds close to buildings need additional assessment.

Plastic and Prefabricated Sheds

Panel construction, bases, anchoring, and access affect how the shed can be taken apart and hauled.

Damaged or Collapsed Sheds

Instability, sharp material, and unknown contents require assessment before acceptance. Keep clear of an unstable shed and leave inspection to the responsible professionals.

Contents, Utilities, and Foundations

The agreed plan identifies contents to keep, contents to haul, the shed structure, and any base or foundation work. Clearing stored belongings is a separate part of the scope; contents should not be assumed included in a structure-only quote.

Electrical, plumbing, gas, or other connections must be handled by the appropriate qualified service before dismantling. Utility disconnection, hazardous material handling, and work on connected structures are outside routine junk hauling.

Concrete slabs, footings, excavation, and restoration are separately assessed. Shed removal does not automatically include breaking a foundation, grading, landscaping, or preparing the site for new construction.

Chicago Permit Requirements

Chicago’s demolition provisions generally require a permit for an entire structure, with exceptions tied to work exempt under the construction code. Requirements depend on the structure and property; confirm permits, any exemption, qualified-contractor requirements, and utility arrangements with the Chicago Department of Buildings before work begins.

Landmark restrictions and other site conditions may affect approval. A removal quote does not establish that a permit is unnecessary or authorize demolition.

Pricing and Debris Cleanup

Price reflects shed size, materials, condition, contents, dismantling labor, access, debris weight, and any separately accepted foundation work. The scope and price are agreed before work begins. A change in scope requires agreement.

Agreed demolition debris is collected and hauled, and the crew tidies the cleared work area. Payment is due after the agreed work is complete and before the crew leaves. Any large-job deposit is discussed before booking.

Recycling depends on material condition and receiving options. The work duration and available appointment are assessed; same-day service or completion in a fixed number of hours is not guaranteed.

Shed Demolition FAQs

Do shed contents need to be removed first?

Contents to keep and contents to haul are identified before work. Contents removal can be assessed as part of the job, but it is not automatically included in shed dismantling.

Can you remove a damaged shed?

Damage and instability require assessment before acceptance. The work plan must be suitable for the structure, surrounding property, materials, and access.

Is the concrete base included?

A slab or foundation is separately assessed and must be explicitly included in the agreed scope. Excavation, grading, landscaping, and replacement construction are separate work.

What happens to connected utilities?

The appropriate qualified service must handle necessary disconnections before dismantling. Routine junk hauling does not include electrical, plumbing, or gas work.

How long will the job take?

Duration depends on construction, condition, contents, access, permissions, and the accepted scope. Timing and appointment availability are discussed before booking.

Do I need a demolition permit?

Confirm the property’s requirements with the Chicago Department of Buildings before work. Exemptions depend on code provisions and site conditions; a quote alone does not determine permit status.
