Couches are bulky, awkward and usually heavier than they look. These are the pieces Chicago customers call us about most:
Sectionals
L-shaped, U-shaped and modular sets, including chaise ends and corner wedges. We take the modules apart and carry each one out separately.
Sleeper sofas
Fold-out beds with steel frames can weigh more than 200 lbs. We strap the mechanism shut so it can't spring open on a staircase.
Loveseats & settees
Two-seaters, futons, daybeds and small apartment sofas, including frames whose cushions have gone flat.
Power & rocker recliners
Reclining sofas and lift chairs with motors and wiring. We unplug them, lock the footrest and remove them safely.
Getting a couch out of a Chicago building
Most couch jobs here aren't ground-floor pickups. Two-flats, courtyard buildings and greystones come with narrow back stairs, tight landings and doors that were hung long before today's sectionals were built. Before we lift anything, we measure the path.
Walk-ups & back porches
We plan the carry on the porch stairs, pad the railings and use straps so the sofa never slides down the steps.
High-rises with elevators
Tell us the building's move-out rules. If management wants a reserved elevator or a certificate of insurance, we can work around it.
Already at the curb or in the garage
If the couch is outside or in the garage, the job goes faster and the price usually reflects that.

What changes the price of a couch removal
Single sofa pickups start at the $129 minimum. The final price depends on:
- Size and weight. A sleeper or a 6-piece sectional takes up more truck space than a loveseat.
- Stairs and carrying distance, from a third-floor walk-up to a straight path out of the garage.
- Extra items in the same trip. Adding a chair, rug or mattress often costs less than booking a second visit.

Where your sofa ends up
A couch in good shape can still be useful to someone, so we check every piece. Clean, structurally sound sofas may go to reuse outlets such as the Habitat for Humanity Chicago ReStore, where acceptance depends on their standards. Couch removal questions
Can you take a sectional that came in pieces?
Yes. Most sectionals unclip at the brackets, and we carry each module out on its own. If yours was assembled with bolts or staples, we remove the connectors on site so nothing gets dragged across your floors.
Do I need to empty the cushions or the sleeper mechanism?
Pull out anything tucked between the cushions, such as remotes, coins or blankets. Leave the cushions on the frame and leave the fold-out bed closed. We strap the mechanism shut before carrying it.
What will it cost to haul away one couch?
A single sofa pickup starts at our $129 minimum. Big sectionals, sleeper sofas and walk-ups with tight landings can cost more. Send a photo and the floor number, and we'll confirm the price before the crew arrives. See the pricing page for load sizes.
Can the City of Chicago pick up my couch instead?
If your home has City garbage service, you can set the couch out next to your cart on your regular collection day, or check with CHI 311 for the current rules. You'll have to get it to the alley or curb yourself, and buildings with five or more units use private haulers. We're the option when you want it gone from inside, on a date you choose.
My couch has bed bugs. Will you still take it?
Tell us when you book. We wrap the piece in plastic before it leaves the room so it doesn't brush walls or hallways on the way out. Our bed bug furniture removal page explains the process.
Will my old couch be donated?
If the fabric is clean, the frame is solid and it has no stains, odors or pet damage, we try to place it with a local reuse outlet. Worn or damaged sofas go to a licensed disposal facility, and we pull out the metal where we can.
